Suresh Bhardwaj , the education minister, said that,” State is giving utmost importance to the education sector and efforts were being made to strengthen educational institutions. He said that the state government has undertaken the task of recruiting 7000 teachers of various categories to achieve this objective.” He further said that teachers were being made accountable for learning outcomes which would further strengthen the education system. State president of teachers union Himachal Pradesh, Virender Chauhan expressed his happiness on receiving the award. He said, ” As the representative of the teachers of the state, I am happy. This proves that our state has the cream of teachers. As this result can be obtained only with the support of the best teachers. After the existing handicaps of the government school teachers of the state, we have outshined the country in the field of education.” He added, ” We have about 10,000 existing vacancies. To make the matter worst, the retirements add to our agony. The recruitment from the year 2003 was turned non-pensionable. After 2006 the teachers are being hired only on contract.” He commended the efforts of the teachers and shared the concern of the mental stress suffered by them. Chauhan said, ”Imagine the stress that a teacher goes through when his job does not guaranty a safe future to his family. There are many who have rendered their sincere services for 15-20 years but are still on contract.” To make education in Himachal better, Chauhan urged the state government to assist the teachers with proper infrastructure. He underlined that if the state needs a quality output in the education field, the no retention policy needs to be mended. The political interference should exit and the transfers should not come unannounced.]]>
