A place which sits in the silence of its historic galore. Dage-sha-ee/Dagshai, as it was popularly known in the Mughal era was a place to house hardcore criminals. The Mughals made their royal mark by pressing the burning iron on the criminal’s forehead, hence justifying Dagee-sha-ee. Later the British bought Dage-sha-ee which was under the rule of Maharaja of Patiyala Bhupinder Singh.
Five towns were bought by the British after paying an amount for them. The British Cantonment was named Dagshai after the last village which was a part of the deal. A tiny helmet which is one of the oldest contentment towns of Solan district posses a rich history in its folds.
Like any other hill town, it has its own list of stories from the past. The stories which are narrated till today and the stories which will be its extension forever.
Ramayan has a part of Dagshai town it in. It is believed that while Hanuman was rushing to get Sanjeevini to revive Lakshman. He had made a halt on the Monkey Hill in Kasauli and while flying from there to Jakhu Hill in Shimla he has seen Dagsahi as well.
A grave in its a cemetery is still subjected to a piece by piece vindication. The practice is followed after a rumour went viral. It was that by possessing a stone from it, women will be divinely helped in producing a healthy baby. The grave made in memory of a beloved wife and an unborn child is fenced now. The legend says it that a British lady’s sadness was assed by an Indian peer. Who latter gave her an armlet and blessed her with a child. She did become pregnant but unfortunately died in the childbirth. It is also said that till the time Britishers lived there Indians were not allowed to enter that area.
Dagsahi also has a cellular jail. It has a hollow floor. Nathuram Godse was the last prisoner of this jail and at one point in time, Gandhi has also visited it. The church of Dagsahi has it’s own stories to tell. The peace and silence of this town are mesmerizing. With almost no commercialization, it still
holds it’s the old-world charm.
