The transgenders all over the country have celebrated their presence in the biggest religious gatherings of the country. Sweety Mahant, a transgender living in Kalka of Himachal Pradesh said, ”It is a moment to be celebrated. We are all very happy that our community has taken part in the celebrities of the Kumbh”. Transgender have waged a long fight for equality. This has come across as a pass for their religious freedom in society. The number 14 of this akhada has left much to relate with the Ram Katha in Ramayana. In it, while leaving for the 14-year exile Rama had asked all the men and women following him to return after a point from the forest. On his way back after the 14 years, he found the transgenders(neither men nor women) waiting for him at the same place. Touched by their devotion ,they were blessed by him to be auspicious once in every function. Sweety has been living in Himachal since the 1970s.”I came here with my guru. Transgenders are in Himachal since the Britishers time. I have been to almost all the districts of Himachal. I was a regular at Raja Virbhadra Singh’s place, till the time his mother was alive. We were distributed goodies almost every Wednesday by her”. Sweety is in love with the respect that she has received in Himachal.” kangri Dham is my favourite, ” she said. As the transgender world celebrates their tiny steps towards the mainstream society , the transgenders from the hills of Himachal applaud loud for their powerful representation in the Kumbh.]]>
