Turning morals of teaching profession into schemes might bring applause to Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) government in Himachal Pradesh but will the responsibility without authority benefit?
This needs to be analyzed in the context of the scheme, Aao Dosti neebhayen, Nashe ko door bhagayen launched by Jai Ram Thakur led BJP in the state recently. Under the scheme, two teachers will be made responsible as Bal Mitra in every school of the state. They will be responsible to keep a vigil on the activities of every student in the school. Any student can give information to this Bal Mitra teacher regarding any addiction or trouble his or her friend is
facing.
The burden of non-teaching assignments, no authority over the students and zero tolerance from the parents have taken a toll on the education system, along with the accountability of the students.
”The government school teachers are already doing the job of counseling the students. It is the moral duty of every teacher and we do it whenever we have time. I am mentioning about the availability of time as the shortage of teaching staff and over stressing non teaching assignments leave us handcuffed, ” said Virender Chauhan, president State Teachers’s Union.
On the face of it, the initiative comes across as a noble thought trying to save the childhood but the problem here is deeper. The students in the government schools reach class eight un-interrupted ,credit the education policy .The teachers have no right to reprimand them for irregularity or the insincerity in the studies.
”Punishment is unthinkable. Parents have become ultra sensitive these days.They intervene even if we speak harsh to the students.Along with the responsibilities, the authority should also be passed on to the teacher,”underlined Chauhan.
Sources say that cheap chemicals are available as drugs these days. The students fall into the trap, not due to emotional needs, they fall into the trap mostly due to their inquisitiveness. Chauhan pointed out, ”It should be the compound responsibility of the society to come together to save the future which rests in the hands of our children.”
A movement should start to save the Children. Sensitivity within the society should touch a level where people form a wall, a wall of safety for the children. Every child is the responsibility of the society. Therefore, all need to come together. Himachal is known as Dev Bhoomi, it should not just be a
segment trying to do a job but everybody together forcing out the drugs from our state. Raise a war not against drugs but in favor of dignity and health.
